Kayaker Saves Injured Dog with Horrific Tale

When Rory O’Connor slid his kayak into the Gulf of Mexico for some fishing, the last thing he imagined he’d pull out of the water was an injured dog. But that’s exactly what happened to the unsuspecting fisherman, whose actions would soon reveal a story with a more bitter-sweet ending than the average fish tale.

Annoying British Christmas Song Torments Polar Explorer

On the second day of his expedition to explore the Antarctic wastelands around the South Pole, Mark Wood encountered a problem unique to today’s polar explorers: his iPod failed. The setback was at first only a minor inconvenience to Wood, who is attempting to be the first person in history to solo ski both the North and South poles consecutively. It was a minor inconvenience, that is, until he overheard the song “Wombling Merry Christmas” by the Wombles in the background while speaking with his family via satellite phone at Christmas. Snowshoeing is an awesome winter activity. It is even better when you combine it with camping, sledding and friends. In this 12min. exposure at least three people took a run down the hill with their headlamps on, and one of them ended up face first in the snow. First Ever Outdoor Alliance Partnership Summit

The Outdoor Alliance, a coalition of national groups representing human powered outdoor recreation, hosted a partnership summit in Golden, Colorado earlier this month. Inspired in part by Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative, the summit’s goal is to increase public-private partnerships leading to greater stewardship, protection and enjoyment of public lands and waters.
An unprecedented meeting, the summit gave both sides of the land management issue a forum to discuss how to design partnerships for the future and improve the ones that exist.
